Vincent Van Goth is a Dutch Post Impressionist painter(according to wiki),erm i just know so far he is called the expressionism with a vast influence over the modern art.My daddy tells us story of Van Goth and his inspiration is come from the wood drawing...you can see that all Van Goth's painting are created with lines and spiral patterns if you relate it to a wood surface you will see the relation in it.
By listening to Van Goth stories..i still vividly remember about his insanity when getting older,he had a big argument with his painter friend Gauguin. Here is Gauguin self protrait...Gauguin earlobe got displaces(cut down) by Van Goth.If interested to know more stories just go google about it.

Goya Oil Paintings- The Colossus
(spootted in newly bought painting books)
Goya,a Spanish painter and print maker regarded both as the last of the Old Masters and as the first of the moderns. Goya was a court painter to the Spanish Crown and a chronicler of history. The subversive and subjective element in his art, as well as his bold handling of paint, provided a model for the work of later generations of artists, notably Manet and Picasso.(quote from wikipedia)
